Harem-i Hümâyûn
History and Importance
The Harem, connected to the Selamlık section by a long corridor, is where the Sultan lived with his mother, wives, and children. It was designed with a much more modern and Western sense of comfort compared to the Topkapı Palace Harem.
The Harem building is divided into sections such as the Valide Sultan's apartment, the Sultan's wives' section, and the princes' apartment. The room where the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, spent his last days and passed away is also located in this section, making the Harem spiritually much more valuable.
